By-Laws of the Labor Education Foundation
Article I - Mission Statement
To provide and promote the use of Labor education materials to children, the public and our members


Article II - Membership

  1. Membership in the LEF is available to any unions, affiliates of the AFL-CIO, groups associations or individuals that are willing to pursue and promote the objectives of the LEF.
  2. A donation of $100.00 is required for any group or organization to become a member of the LEF.
  3. Each donation of $100.00 entitles the group or organization to one board member on the Board of Directors up to a maximum of three.
  4. At the discretion of the Board of directors an individual can be granted dispensation form the initial membership donation.
Article III - Board of directors
  1. The Labor Education Foundation shall be governed by a Board of Directors. All issues acted upon by the LEF shall be approved by majority vote of the Board of Directors present at that meeting.
  2. A meeting of the LEF Board of Directors shall be scheduled at least quarterly.
  3. The initial Board of Directors will be established from the existing active members as defined by said members at the meeting where these by-laws are approved. This board may only be expanded by new groups joining the LEF and designating a person or persons to represent them on the Board. All applications for membership from groups or organizations will be approved unless a vote is requested by a board member, at which time a secret ballot vote will be taken and determined by a simple majority.
  4. Upon the recommendation of a Board member an individual may be considered for inclusion on the Board of Directors if that recommendation is approved by a majority of the Board members present at that meeting.
Article IV - Officers
  1. There shall be an executive board consisting of three elected officers elected by the Board of Directors. These officers shall consist of 
    1. Chairperson
    2. Vice-Chairperson
    3. Secretary-Treasurer
  2. Election of officers shall take place at the first meeting following the approval of these by-laws and shall serve a term of no longer than two years. Prior to election of officers the Executive Board shall send notification to all Board members notifying them of the time and place of the election.


Article V - Duties of the Executive Board

  1. All Executive Board members shall be expected to attend all meetings of the Labor Education Foundation.
  2. All monies belonging to the LEF shall only be used toward the purchase of materials and other expenses of the LEF as determined by the Board of Directors. No monies belonging to the LEF between board meetings, and to act on matters which require action prior to the next meeting of the Board of Directors.
  3. The Executive Board shall be responsible for carrying out the policies and decisions of the Board of Directors and shall have full power and responsibility to direct the work of the LEF between board meetings, and to act on matters which require action prior to the next meeting of the Board of Directors.
  4. The Duties of the Chairperson shall be to chair all board meetings. The Chairperson may only vote on issues before the Board of Directors in instances of a tie.
  5. The Vice-Chairperson assumes the duties of the Chairperson in their absence.
  6. The Secretary-Treasurer shall be responsible for receipt and disbursement of all monies belonging to the Labor Education Foundation and shall give a complete financial report at each meeting of the Board of Directors. All checks issued by the Secretary-Treasurer shall co-signed by one other member of the Executive Board of Directors.
  7. These by-laws may only be amended of changed by a two-thirds majority vote of the Board of Directors present, and upon prior written notice being sent to all board members that such amendment of change has been proposed.


These by-laws considered and approved on July 31, 2000.
